Estimating bearing grease quantity

The replenishment estimate uses bearing outside diameter and width to calculate a grease mass. It is a quantity estimate for the represented replenishment method, not a rule to fill every bearing housing completely. Grease quantity and relubrication interval are separate decisions.

Start the interval with supplier guidance

Enter an interval suitable for the bearing, grease, speed, temperature, and installation. The condition factor adjusts that input; the calculator does not derive an interval from operating measurements. Annual operating hours then estimate how often replenishment would occur.

Check the lubrication arrangement

Sealed bearings, centralized systems, and different grease-entry arrangements can require different treatment. Too much grease can also cause problems. Follow the bearing and equipment manufacturer's instructions for product compatibility, quantity, delivery method, and whether relubrication is appropriate at all.

Estimating a replenishment amount

With outside diameter and width entered in millimeters, the implemented quantity estimate is 0.005 times diameter times width in grams. A bearing 100 mm in outside diameter and 20 mm wide gives 10 g on that basis. This illustrates the model's quantity calculation, not a recommendation for every 100 mm bearing or every lubrication arrangement.

Check whether the equipment instructions describe replenishment through a side port, through bearing holes, or another delivery path. A grease mass intended for one arrangement should not be applied automatically to another. The interval input remains a separate supplier-based assumption. Multiplying by a condition factor changes that interval, but the factor cannot diagnose contamination or determine whether old grease can escape. Annual consumption estimates should also distinguish routine replenishment from initial housing fill and overhaul quantities. Record operating hours rather than calendar hours where the maintenance instruction is runtime-based. Observe the equipment manufacturer's procedure and investigate abnormal temperature or lubrication behavior instead of relying on the worksheet alone.
